If you are working on a document using this package, we recommend you convert it to use the geometry package instead. This package was created by SIPB and is not part of standard LaTeX distributions. You may see older LaTeX files at MIT that use the simplemargins package. This may interact poorly with other packages. The fullpage package, simply by virtue of including it, will change your document to use 1 inch margins on all sides. The problem is that when I compile the document, the different margins only take effect 1 page after the one they were supposed to. The \oddsidemargin and the \evensidemargin are both changed because LaTeX has two side margins, one for odd pages and one for even pages. These commands decrease the margin on one side then increase the text size by double that decreased amount, thereby decreasing both the left and right margins (or top and bottom in the second group of commands) by the same amount. Books and other large documents occasionally require different page number formats in different sections.
Selecting a region changes the language and/or content on commands would be placed in the preamble of your document (prior to \begin). You can use Microsoft Word to create complex documents. Odd-numbered pages always appear on the right if you use the Section Options command to change the first page number to an even number, the first page becomes a verso (left) page.įor information on creating basic page numbering in a document, see Add basic page numbering. If you give the standard classes the twoside option, the class sets the margins narrow on the left of odd-numbered pages, and on the right of even-numbered. (For example, you can correctly number a 100‑page document that starts on page 9,949.) By default, the first page is a recto (right) page numbered 1. For example, the first ten pages of a document (the front matter) might use Roman numerals, and the rest of the document might use Arabic numerals.Ī single InDesign document can contain up to 9,999 pages, but page numbers can be as large as 999,999. If you want to use different numbering within a document, you can define ranges of pages as sections these sections can be numbered differently. Each document can be assigned only one chapter number. For long documents, you can assign chapter numbers.
